knees are for wimps
DeJuan Blair does not have ACLs in his knees. This is really pretty amazing, when you think about it :
During his high-school surgeries, Blair’s doctors did not purposefully remove his ACLs—the going theory is that they tried to repair some partial damage to the ligaments and failed. Then, over time, Blair’s ACLs deteriorated to the point of disappearance. Since this was a gradual change, his muscles and other ligaments could have adapted slowly to the added strain.
Blair is a big, big dude, so his quads must be working pretty hard. It’s crazy though, to think about how adaptive people are.
… and speaking of big, adaptive basketball players, Shelden Williams has — quietly — done a very nice job for the Celtics so far, given some minutes to play with due to Big Baby’s… um… “incident”. I’m a huge Glen Davis fan, but if Williams is capable of being this effective as a role player (in this particular role), he may be more useful to the team than Davis is at the moment. Rebound, defend, run the floor, and dunk. On this year’s Celtics team, that’s a good skill set to have.
